Small jobs, taken seriously

Craig's Handyman Service is Craig, working across Gqeberha and Port Elizabeth. One person, one set of tools, and a straightforward position on what a handyman should and should not be doing.

The actual job

The work nobody wants to come out for

There is a particular category of problem in every house. Too small to feel worth calling a specialist. Too fiddly or too risky to want to tackle on a Saturday with a drill you have used twice. So it sits. The cupboard door stays crooked, the shelf stays in its box, the tap keeps dripping, and the list on the fridge gets longer and more annoying.

That list is the job. Not emergency call-outs, not full renovations, not pretending to be a plumber. The unglamorous middle: honest small repairs done properly, in one visit, at a price agreed before anything starts.

The tagline on the signwriting says it better than a paragraph can. No job too small. It is meant literally.

How it works in practice

Six things that do not change

No company history to recite. This is what the job looks like, every time.

Quote first, always

No work starts without an agreed number. If something changes once the job is open, it stops and gets agreed before it continues. A surprise on the invoice is the thing people remember longest.

Say no to the wrong job

Geysers, pipework, fixed electrical work, gate motors and anything needing a compliance certificate get referred to a registered specialist. It is a smaller invoice for that visit, and it is the honest answer.

Do the whole list

The trip is the expensive part. Working through several jobs in one visit is cheaper for the customer and it is the reason to keep a list rather than book a job.

Leave it clean

Dust swept, packaging stacked where you want it, tools out of the way. Not a nice-to-have. It is the part most people have been burned on before.

Right fixing for the wall

Brick, concrete, drywall and tile all behave differently. Coastal homes get stainless or galvanised hardware, because standard steel rusts out within a season this close to the sea.

Tell you when it is not worth it

Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair will not hold and the panel or the fitting needs replacing. You get told that before money is spent on the wrong fix.

The line

What a handyman should not do

In South Africa certain work has to be done by a registered professional, for good reasons that have nothing to do with paperwork. Water installation work and fixed electrical work both fall on the other side of that line.

So this gets said at the start rather than discovered halfway through. A handyman who will have a go at anything is the reason people are wary of handymen.

Handyman work

Fittings, doors, cupboards, brackets, rails, shelves, furniture, silicone, small paint repairs, and maintenance on fittings that are already there.

Referred to a specialist

Geysers and hot water cylinders. Burst pipes and pipework. Moving or installing a water installation. Fixed electrical work and anything needing a compliance certificate. Gate motors and automation. Structural work.

How pricing works

Fixed price per job, quoted before work starts. No hourly rate and no meter running. Labour only. Materials and fittings are quoted separately and approved by you before anything is bought.

Getting a good quote

What to send

A good quote comes from a good description. This is everything that helps, and none of it takes more than a few minutes.
  • The list, in your own words. Rough is fine, it gets clarified.
  • Photos of anything unusual, especially walls where something is being mounted.
  • The suburb, and the complex name and access procedure if there is one.
  • Whether you already have the fittings, or want them sourced.
  • Anything you have tried that did not work. It usually narrows the cause quickly.
Straight up

There are no reviews on this site yet

Not because they are being filtered out, and not because there are none worth showing. This business is new to the internet, and there is no Google listing carrying reviews to quote from. Putting invented testimonials on here, with names and star ratings, would be the easy thing to do and it would be a lie.

So the site shows the work, the prices and the limits instead. If you have had work done and it went well, a Google review goes a long way. If it did not go well, that call is worth having directly.

Give the list to someone who will actually come out

Send it on WhatsApp with a few photos. You get an honest answer on which jobs fit, how long it takes, and what it costs.
