Cupboard and Cabinet Repairs

Doors that hang, hinges that gave up, drawers that jump the rail.

Kitchen cupboards fail in a specific order. First one door starts hanging low. Then the hinge plate screws pull out of the board because the chipboard around them has crumbled. Then someone re-drills the hinge into fresh board a centimetre away and the door never sits right again.

The fix is usually a repair plate or a hinge relocated into sound board with the right insert, not a whole new door. If the panels themselves are blown from water damage, that is a carpentry job and I will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.

Typical price

R250 to R650labour

Send a photo of the hinge or the runner and you get a price per door or drawer rather than a price for the whole kitchen.

Every job is quoted at a fixed price before work starts, so there is no hourly rate and no meter running. Labour only. Materials and fittings are quoted separately and approved by you before anything is bought.

How pricing works

Typical jobs

What this usually turns into

  • Kitchen door rehung on new hinges45 min to 1 hr
  • Hinge plate pulled out of chipboard, repaired1 hr per door
  • Soft close hinges retrofitted15 min per door
  • Drawer runner replaced1 hr
  • Shelf pins, brackets and extra shelves fitted1 hr
  • Cabinet door alignment across a run1.5 to 2 hrs

Times are on site, not including travel, and they are a guide rather than a promise: a job that reveals something once it is open takes longer, and you hear about it before it carries on. Every job is quoted at a fixed price before work starts, so adding to the list changes the quote rather than running up a meter.

What is covered

Included in the visit

  • Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and garage cupboards
  • Hinge replacement and damaged hinge plates repaired
  • Soft close hinges fitted to existing doors
  • Drawer runners, slides and stops
  • Handles, knobs and catches
  • Extra shelves, shelf pins and brackets

Where the line is

If the board has swelled and blown from a water leak, no hinge will ever hold in it properly. That needs the panel replaced, which is carpentry, and I will quote it as such instead of telling you a new hinge will solve it.

Straight answers

Cupboards questions

The things people ask about this job before booking it.
The screws on my cupboard hinge just spin. Can that be fixed?

Usually yes. That spinning means the chipboard around the screw hole has broken down. A repair plate or a hinge set slightly into solid board fixes it permanently. Re-drilling into fresh board nearby is the shortcut that causes the door to hang crooked.

Can you add soft close to my existing kitchen?

In most cases yes, by swapping the hinges rather than the doors. It is one of the cheapest upgrades in a kitchen and it takes a few minutes per door. I check the existing hinge pattern first because there are several standards.

One of my drawer runners is broken. Do I need a whole new drawer?

No. Runners are a standard part and they come in a few common lengths. Measure the drawer and the old runner, and it is almost always a straight swap.

Can you fit extra shelves in a pantry?

Yes. New shelf pins, or brackets if the board needs more support. Tell me how many shelves and roughly what you plan to store on them, because a shelf holding tinned food needs different support to one holding cereal boxes.
